Pedestrian Killed While Crossing Ojota Road In Lagos Hit-And-Run Accident

According to the agency, the victim was crossing the busy road when the fatal accident occurred. The driver involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene.

A pedestrian has been killed in a hit-and-run accident while crossing the main carriageway at Ojota, inward Ketu, Lagos State, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

LASTMA disclosed the incident in a traffic update issued at about 9:05am on Saturday, October 10, warning pedestrians against crossing the expressway instead of using the designated pedestrian bridge.

According to the agency, the victim was crossing the busy road when the fatal accident occurred. The driver involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene.

“The victim has been taken off the road,” LASTMA stated in its brief report.
The agency urged pedestrians to always use the pedestrian bridge when crossing the expressway to avoid fatal accidents.

LASTMA stressed that pedestrian bridges are provided for public safety and should not be treated as decorative structures.

The incident added to concerns over pedestrian safety on Lagos roads, where crossing busy highways outside designated crossing points exposes road users to the risk of being struck by speeding vehicles.

As of the time of this report, LASTMA has not disclosed the identity of the deceased or provided details about the vehicle and driver involved in the hit-and-run incident.

The agency also did not state whether any arrest has been made in connection with the fatal accident.
