Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, is set to host the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) Colloquium in Yola from March 29 to April 1, 2026, at the banquet hall of the government house in Yola.
The colloquium, which will bring together stakeholders to shape Nigeria’s healthcare and pharmaceutical future, will serve as a key event to be held ahead of the pharmaceutical industry’s 2027 centenary.
The event will launch the Centenary Trust Fund, aiming to boost the profession’s development and position Nigeria as Africa’s pharmacy hub.
Speaking with journalists, ahead of the event, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim, who is hosting the colloquium, confirmed that preparations have been successfully concluded for the event.
Ibrahim attributed the smooth planning process to the strong support and commitment of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, describing the event as a “strategic reset” for the nation’s healthcare system.
According to him, the colloquium will provide an opportunity for the profession to reflect on its historic achievements while mapping out the next phase of growth for the pharmaceutical industry.
He noted that the decision to host the event in Adamawa State reflects Governor Fintiri’s support for healthcare in the state, which, according to him, earned him the recognition, through the infrastructural development of the healthcare sector and appointment of pharmacists to strategic roles within the public service.
“With a rich history dating back to our founding, this anniversary reminds us of the successes that have improved health outcomes across the nation,” Ibrahim said, while paying tribute to the profession’s founding fathers and past leadership.
Addressing young pharmacists, Ibrahim stressed that they represent the architects of the industry’s second century.
He, however, urged the young pharmacists to take advantage of the mentorship and networking opportunities offered by the colloquium as the profession prepares for a future driven by technology, innovation, and local pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Chairman of the Centenary Planning Committee and former PSN President, Olumide Akintayo, disclosed that the colloquium will witness the historic launch of the Centenary Trust Fund. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the long-term development of the pharmaceutical profession and repositioning the sector for the future.
Akintayo said the Society is leveraging the colloquium as a strategic platform to advocate for the transformation of Nigeria’s healthcare system from the colonial-era dispensary model to a modern and globally competitive pharmaceutical industry.
The event, themed ‘Launching of Centenary Endowment Funds’, will feature a keynote address by renowned pharmaceutical scholar Cyril Odianose Usifoh. Discussions will focus on advancing the vision of positioning Nigeria as the “Pharmacy of Africa,” particularly in line with the strategic goal of achieving 70 per cent local drug production by 2030.
As Chief Host, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has assured delegates of a world-class environment for the event. Supporting the hosting efforts are key state officials, including the Head of Service, Isa Shehu Ardo; Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley; Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Felix Tangwami; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Zirra Bubanani; and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Pharmaceutical Matters, Nneka Okwuma.
As the countdown to the late March gathering begins, stakeholders say the 2026 PSN Colloquium represents a defining moment for Nigeria’s pharmaceutical profession, to reinforce collective commitment toward building a healthcare system that is accessible, resilient, and globally competitive.
