A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State and Lead Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has pledged to prioritise the welfare of residents if elected governor in 2027.
Jandor made the pledge on Saturday while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the 8th Annual Ramadan Lecture held in Ikeja.
He said the fundamental responsibility of government is to improve the well-being of citizens, adding that his administration would take deliberate steps to enhance the living conditions of residents if given the mandate.
According to him, the government should focus on creating an enabling environment for economic growth rather than directly running businesses. He noted that his administration would address prevailing economic hardship through strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare and other critical sectors.
The governorship hopeful also reflected on the resilience of members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, stating that the group had remained united for nearly a decade despite challenges following the 2023 general elections.
“We didn’t start today. In 2023, they thought I would ask them to go home because of what happened after the general elections. We believe that 2023 was a test for us from God. I didn’t ask anyone to go home, and we are still meeting at Liberty House,” he said.
Adediran further observed that no one from the Badagry Division of Lagos State has served as governor, expressing optimism that the aspiration of people from the division could eventually be realised.
Meanwhile, the guest speaker at the event, Abdulhakeem Muhammadu Awwal, who spoke on the theme ‘Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation: The Islamic Perspective’, advocated structured management of Zakat.
He urged governments to establish technocrat-led committees to ensure transparent and efficient distribution of Zakat funds to support entrepreneurship, education, healthcare and vulnerable members of society.
