Villagers with giant scrotums

I recently accompanied a friend to his village for a family ceremony. During our stay, about four of his relatives came to ask him for money to treat their big scrotum which they said was common in the village. I want to know what could be the cause of this ‘epidemic’.

Scrotum that can measure between 70-80 cm and reach a weight of around 9-12 kgs could be due to accumulation of water (Hydrocoele) or due to worm infestation such as Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi which are transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus: Culex, Anopheles and Aedes, producing the disease known as lymphatic filariasis. Since the problem is rampant in the village, the large scrotum must be due to worm infestation. The best solution is for the public heath department in the area to be notified so that a massive epidemiological solution can be undertaken in the village.
