Inaugurates 23 APC LG Chairmen
The Senator representing Sokoto East, Ibrahim Lamido, on Sunday inaugurated newly elected local government chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 23 local government areas of Sokoto State, further intensifying concerns over parallel congresses within the party.
The development comes amid lingering internal divisions following Lamido’s fallout with the mainstream faction of the party in the state, led by former governor and Senator representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Wamakko.
The disagreement, which began less than a year after Lamido’s inauguration into the Senate under the APC, has since deepened factional lines within the party in Sokoto.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Sokoto, followed last week’s APC local government congress. Lamido stated that the exercise was conducted through consensus, in line with approval granted by the party’s national leadership.
Addressing the newly-inaugurated officials, the senator congratulated them and urged them to strengthen the party’s grassroots structure in preparation for future political contests at both the state and national levels.
He explained that the party’s national body had allowed states to adopt either consensus or delegate elections in producing executives, noting that Sokoto opted for consensus.
Lamido also acknowledged Honourable Kabiru Sarkin Fulani as the incoming state chairman and commended party leaders and local government secretaries for what he described as their loyalty and commitment to the party.
Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and accountability, the lawmaker assured members of his steadfast loyalty.
“As your representative at the Senate, I will never betray your trust. Whatever I tell you remains the truth without deception. Above all, I know I will be accountable before Allah,” he stated.
He also cautioned youths against engaging in political violence and divisive politics, particularly at a time when parts of the region are grappling with security challenges.
“We cannot continue engaging in political conflicts while our people live in fear and anxiety. We must change the way politics is played. If we do so, we will produce credible leaders,” he warned.
