Nollywood’s Ray Emodi quits acting, to pursue career in music

Nollywood actor, Ray Emodi, has announced decision to quit acting, calling the move a difficult one with consequences.

In a video shared with fans, Emodi said he never imagined he would make such an announcement, noting that many people frequently ask him about his film projects.

“I’ve stopped acting films, I quit. There was a time I never thought I will say that sentence for a short period of time, but I won’t lie, I feel like I have to clear the air cause I get this question a lot, even in comments, people that I miss, they ask me like heyyy your films, your films, your films,” he said.

He stated that he invested significant effort into his acting career, recounting experiences of filming in tense environments where gunshots could be heard in nearby towns.

“I put in a lot of work in nollywood, I put in a lot of work, I shot a film in a town that I won’t say, but there, we were literally hearing gunshots. There was a craziness going on in the town next to our town, and we’re still shooting.”

The actor explained that his decision was influenced largely by family considerations.

According to him, he comes from a family that values strict standards and reputation, and they do not support certain aspects of his public persona.

“This is a decision that comes with lots of consequences, like my family doesn’t support this, it’s a family’s strict rules and reputation to protect, which is understandable, and I respect them.”

Emodi said he respects his family’s position and would not engage in anything that could bring disrepute to their name.

He also addressed concerns about scenes in which he appears with what looks like smoking materials, clarifying that such items are props used strictly for acting purposes.

“If you people see me with backwood, abeg make una no vex, the backy is just a prop,” he added.

The video has drawn reactions from fans, with some expressing surprise at the decision, while others offered support for his personal choice
