The newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, on Wednesday formally took over the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, shortly after his decoration.
Disu was appointed on Tuesday by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, following the resignation of the former police chief, Kayode Egbetokun.
The new police boss arrived at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, at about 4:40 pm for the official handover ceremony, which had earlier been scheduled for 2:00 pm.
Accompanied by senior officers from the Federal Capital Territory Command, the Intelligence Response Unit, and the Force Headquarters, Disu was received with a ceremonial salute by the quarter guard.
The historic handover ceremony was still ongoing as of press time.
