Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has stated that, despite recent security breaches, the government will not yield to fear or intimidation.
He assured the public that the state will emerge stronger, more united, and steadfast in its commitment to peace.
In a broadcast to the people on Tuesday, the Governor addressed the tragic killings of 28 individuals in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government.
He emphasized that the government would use all available resources to defend its citizens, protect lives and property, and maintain the territorial integrity of the state.
Governor Mutfwang mentioned that the government has taken swift and decisive measures, including imposing a 48-hour curfew to restore order and prevent further escalation of violence.
This curfew is intended to allow security operatives to conduct thorough operations and ensure the safety of all residents.
Additionally, the Governor disclosed that the state government will cover the medical expenses of those injured in the violence.
He also expressed a commitment to working closely with the families of the deceased, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure dignified burials for the victims and to provide support for their dependents.
Furthermore, the Governor pointed out that security agencies have apprehended a suspect who had previously issued threats against the peace of the state.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in these heinous acts are swiftly brought to justice and held accountable.
“This time, we shall pursue the cause of justice to its logical conclusion to ensure closure for the victims, their families, and, most importantly, the generality of the peace-loving people of Plateau State” he declared.
He equally directed security agencies to strictly enforce the law banning Commercial Motorcycle Operators ( Okada) within the Jos Greater Master plan, stressing that the state Commissioner of Police will issue detailed guidelines to that effect.
The Governor urged all citizens to remain vigilant and to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies for swift action.
“We shall continue to work closely with security agencies to restore calm, bring perpetrators to justice, and prevent any recurrence of such acts. I call on all residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to resist any temptation to take the law into their own hands. Plateau State has long stood as a beacon of peaceful coexistence, and we must not allow the actions of a few to destroy the harmony we have built over the years” he said.
