The Osun State Government has explained the circumstances behind the suspension of the elevation of two traditional rulers, accusing the opposition of manipulating the situation for political gain.
According to a statement by the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Dosu Babatunde, on Monday, the government suspended the elevation after receiving protests from other traditional rulers, including the Owa of Otan Ayegbaju and the Oluresi of Iresi.
The statement claimed that the protests were based on allegations that the request for elevation did not pass through the Traditional Council and Chieftaincy Committee as required, and that the Akifin of Ikinfin, who recommended the elevation, was not the appropriate Prescribed Authority for the chieftaincies.
The government said it had investigated the matter and found that the allegations were true and that the elevation was therefore suspended to correct the anomaly.
The statement accused those lying about the government of exchanging money on the issue, saying that the group is working with the opposition to manipulate the situation for political gain.
